Eighteen listings in this directory carry the food-festival tag, and the spread matters more than the count. The Seacoast eats first in April. The chowder and beer festivals cluster in early June. The pumpkin festivals hold three separate October weekends in three different regions, so you can do all three without a conflict.
Here is the year in date order, plus an honest note at the end about which records tell us admission is free and which say nothing at all.
April: Restaurant Week starts the year
Restaurant Week Portsmouth & The Seacoast runs ten days, April 9 to 18, and it is the earliest food-festival listing in our 2026 data. It is also structurally different from everything else on this page. There is no fairground and no gate. The participating restaurants are the event, which means the menu list on the organizer's site is the thing to read, not a site map.
June: chowder, bacon and small-batch beer
June 6 forces a choice. The 97.5 WOKQ Chowder Festival runs that day in Portsmouth with competitions, food and live music. The NH Beer & Bacon Festival runs the same day in Merrimack. Different regions, the Seacoast and the Merrimack Valley, so this is a pick-one.
Two weeks later the Newport Nano Brewfest takes June 20 in Sullivan County, one day, with food and live music, in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region.
Market Days Festival closes the month in Concord, June 25 to 27. It is tagged food festival, music, artisan and family at once, carries free admission, and puts crafts, food, kids' activities and live music into the same downtown weekend. July and August: chocolate, hot sauce, and the Moose Festival
July 25 is the second collision on this calendar. Chocolate Fest runs that day in Waterville Valley with food and live music. Canterbury Fair runs the same day in Merrimack County, free, with crafts, food, kids' activities and live music.
Earlier in the month, Hillsboro Summer Festival runs July 9 to 12 with fireworks, food, free admission, live music and rides. That feature set makes it a fair-shaped event rather than a tasting event, even though it carries the food-festival tag.
The New England Hot Sauce Festival takes August 1 in Portsmouth with competitions, crafts, food and live music.
The month ends far north. The North Country Moose Festival runs August 28 and 29 in Colebrook, Coos County. It is the only food-festival listing in the Great North Woods, and it carries competitions, crafts, food, kids' activities and live music.
September: seafood, Greek food, and a pickle parade
The Hampton Beach Seafood Festival runs September 11 to 13 and carries a sourced founding year of 1988, one of only three fairs in this entire directory that carries one. Its record also lists competitions, crafts, fireworks, food and live music, a wider program than most single-subject food festivals.
Glendi Greek Festival takes September 18 to 20 in Manchester, tagged cultural, food festival and music, with food and live music.
The Winchester Pickle Festival runs September 26 in Cheshire County with a parade, crafts, food, free admission and kids' activities. A one-day free festival with a parade is an unusually low-friction family outing, and there are not many of those on this list.
October: apples, chili, and three pumpkin weekends
October 3 splits the state again. Apple Harvest Day runs that Saturday in Dover, free, with competitions, crafts, food, kids' activities and live music. The Powder Keg Beer & Chili Festival runs the same day in Exeter with competitions, food and live music. Both are one-day events and both sit in the Seacoast region.
The pumpkin festivals, by contrast, do not compete with each other at all. Milford Pumpkin Festival takes October 9 to 11. Keene Pumpkin Festival takes October 17, one day. Laconia Pumpkin Festival takes October 23 and 24.
Three weekends, three regions: Merrimack Valley, Monadnock and the Lakes Region. All three are tagged seasonal, family and food festival, and all three carry food, free admission, kids' activities and live music. That is as close to a repeatable October template as this dataset offers.
What our records say about admission, and what they don't
Eight of the eighteen food-festival listings carry a free-admission flag: Market Days, Canterbury Fair, Hillsboro Summer Festival, the Winchester Pickle Festival, Apple Harvest Day, and the Milford, Keene and Laconia pumpkin festivals.
The other ten carry no admission flag either way. That is not the same as knowing they charge. It means our record does not state it, and the organizer's own page is the only place to confirm a 2026 price. Beer, chili and seafood events in particular often sell tasting tickets separately from entry, so read the ticket page before you drive.
