pulling

A weight-hauling contest, run with draft animals or with vehicles, on a measured course.

In a pull, a team hauls a loaded sled or boat a set distance, with weight added between rounds until only one team can still move the load. Draft horse and oxen pulls are a long-standing part of New England agricultural fairs, and many fairs also run motorized pulls with tractors or trucks. Pulls are arena events with fixed start times, so check the daily schedule rather than wandering in.

Also known as: draft pull, ox pull, horse pull, truck pull.
